Technical Falls Lead Drexel to 21-16 Win Over Rider

Philadelphia – Drexel wrestling defeated Rider, 21-16, in a Colonial Athletic Association match held at the Daskalakis Athletic Center. Steve Mytych (Wyoming, Pa./Northampton), Ryan Hluschak (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and Chris Cowen (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) each picked up a technical fall victory to give Drexel a slim victory as both Drexel (8-5, 4-0 CAA) and Rider (2-3, 0-1 CAA) won five matches. The match pitted the two active leaders in career Division I coaching wins as Drexel's Jack Childs earned victory No. 376 while Rider's Gary Taylor remained at 321.
Mytych opened the match with a decisive technical fall over Thomas Lorenzo at 6:11. Junior Billy Martin (Avon Grove, Pa./Landenberg) followed with a thrilling overtime win over freshman Matt Bradley in the 133-pound match. With Rider down, 8-0, the Broncs won the next two matches, including one major decision victory, to slim the Dragons' lead to 8-7. Drexel junior Ryan Hluschak earned his technical fall victory at 4:30 over Rob Morrison. Billy Haydt (Bath, Pa./Northampton) followed with a tight 7-6 decision to give the Dragons their largest lead at 16-7. Rider responded with three straight victories, all decisions to knot the match, 16-16. Cowen clinched the Drexel victory with his technical fall win at 6:30 over Nick Ciufo.
Drexel will travel to Charlottesville, Va. to participate in the 2007 Virginia Duals on Friday, Jan. 12. The Dragons, seeded seventh, will face Wyoming in the first round at 11:00 a.m.
